I have not had much experience with permitting offices but the run around they gave us, when trying to pull permits to repair a house, after a fire, was crazy. We could never get anyone on the phone. We had to drive in to the office on three different occasions before we finally got the permits. We pulled the permits as homeowner and were trying to get information from them about how far to proceed before inspections. They told us to fix the framing, the roof, the electrical and plumping then to have it inspected. Now the roof inspector came out and told us he had to inspect the roof while it was in progress. We finished the roof before we even got the permits because we had to seal it in and getting the permits was taking way too long.
Inspector fail inspections 3 times, 4th time a different inspector shows up and pass it with any change since 3rd. inspections.
I kept calling the office until I got ahold of the Director, Chandra Frederick. I was hoping that by making a complaint with someone higher up in administration we could get things done. She told me it was not their job the explain how the permitting and inspections are done. That if we were pulling permits as the homeowner we were supposed to know how the process works.
Inspector then didn't even remember talking to me, going to the site or putting a red tag on it.

I have been a contractor in central Florida for 20 years and I have the most difficulties with this permit office. Some of the front line staff try hard to make the experience pleasant, just to have the plan review and inspectors mess it all up. I would rather not give examples and feel satisfied that I do the very best I can always and try to stay positive that right will overcome wrong in the long run.
This place is slow as dirt . Worst permit department on planet earth :( Go take a look at Orange County and Hillsborough county permit departments and take plenty of notes and learn from them!!
Call the inspector to see if he'll make the inspection. He says he won't.... Shows up and fails us for not giving him access.
